What is Depression?
Do you identify with depression? Are you fed up feeling so flat, irritable or miserable? Would you like to understand why our brains sometimes work like this and what we can do to help regain excitement and other positive emotions back in our lives?
Common Symptoms:
- Continuous low negative mood
- No Energy or motivation
- Feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness
- Emotional and tearful
- Irritable and intolerant
- Guilt-ridden
- Frustration and helplessness
- Procrastination
- Suicidal thoughts or self-harm habits
Not understanding why we feel depressed (and sometimes anxious as well) causes frustration, the situation can be hard to explain to friends and loved ones. Knowing that there are people worse off, just doesn’t help. Various reasons can make it difficult to seek help.
Facts:

- The cause can be a trauma, and/or a build-up of smaller upsets in our subconscious
- Depression can have a negative effect on our relationships
- It is not necessarily what is going on in our lives, but the way we think about it
- Depression has a negative effect on our wellbeing, and it can be dire
- We can re-train our minds to avoid depression, and relatively quickly
